धनतेरस की पौराणिक कथा

मित्रों कहते है कि प्रकृति जब चाहती है तो वह किसी के भी साथ कुछ भी कर सकती है। वह चाहे तो राजा को भिखारी और भिखारी को राजा बना देती है। ऐसे ही मेरे दादा ने कई कहानियो मे से एक कहानी गरीब किसान की भी सुनाई थी। जिसके घर देवी लक्ष्मी 12 बर्षो तक भेष बदलकर रहने लगीं वह भी स्वयं भगवान विष्णु के एक श्राप के कारण। तब चलिए वह कहानी मै आज आप को भी सुनाता हूँ।

मेरे दादा ने उस दिन जो कहानी सुनाई वह इस प्रकार है। कि एक बार इधर प्रकृति ने कुछ उलटफेर किया और उधर भगवान विष्णु ने भी धरती लोक में विचरण करने का निश्चय किया, जब उन्होंने यह बात देवी लक्ष्मी जी को बताई, तो उन्होंने भी साथ में चलने का आग्रह किया। तब विष्णु जी ने देवी से कहा कि, “अगर तुम मेरे साथ चलना चाहती हो तो तुम्हें मेरी हर आज्ञा का पालना करना होगा और मेरे कहा मानना पड़ेगा।”

लक्ष्मी जी ने भगवान विष्णु की शर्त मान ली और उनके साथ धरती पर विचरण करने के लिए निकल पड़ीं। धरती पर पहुंचने के उपरांत, भगवान विष्णु और लक्ष्मी जी एक स्थान पर रुके और तब भगवान विष्णु जी ने देवी से कहा कि, “मैं दक्षिण दिशा की ओर भ्रमण करने जा रहा हूँ, जब तक मैं न आऊं, तुम कहीं मत जाना।”

तब विष्णु जी के जाने पर देवी लक्ष्मी जी के मन में यह जिज्ञासा पैदा हो गई कि आखिरकार दक्षिण दिशा में ऐसा क्या है जो स्वामी मुझे अपने पीछे आने के लिए मना कर रहे हैं।

लक्ष्मी जी से रहा नहीं गया और अपनी जिज्ञासा को शांत करने के लिए वह भी विष्णु जी के पीछे-पीछे चल पड़ीं। कुछ थोड़ी दूर जाने पर, उन्हें सरसों का एक खेत दिखाई पड़ा, जिसमें सुन्दर पीले फूल खिले हुए थे। तब सरसों के फूलों की सुंदरता देखकर, माता लक्ष्मी मंत्रमुग्ध हो गईं और उन्हें तोड़कर माता अपना श्रृंगार करने लगीं। इसके बाद थोड़ा और चलने पर, उन्हें एक गन्ने का खेत भी दिखाई दिया। जिसमे से लक्ष्मी जी ने गन्ने तोड़े और उसका रस पीने लगीं। तभी उसी क्षण भगवान विष्णु जी वहां प्रकट हो गए।

तभी विष्णु जी लक्ष्मी जी को देखकर उन पर अत्यंत ही क्रोधित हो गए और बोले, मैंने तुम्हें इधर आने से मना किया था पर तुम मेरी बात नहीं मानी और किसान के खेत में चोरी का अपराध भी कर बैठी। अब तुम्हें इस अपराध से मुक्ति पाने के लिए उस गरीब किसान की 12 सालों तक सेवा करनी पड़ेगी। तब ऐसा कहकर भगवान उन्हें वहां छोड़कर क्षीर सागर लौट गए।

इसके पश्चात्, माता लक्ष्मी जी उस गरीब किसान के घर में भेष बदलकर रहने लगीं। एक दिन माता लक्ष्मी जी ने उस गरीब किसान की पत्नी से कहा कि तुम स्नान करके पहले मेरे द्वारा बनाई गई देवी लक्ष्मी जी की प्रतिमा का प्रतिदिन पूजन करो और उसके पश्चात ही रसोई में भोजन बनाओं। तुम पूजा करते समय देवी से सच्चे मन से जो भी मांगोगी, वह तुम्हें शीघ्र ही मिल जाएगा।

किसान की पत्नी ने ऐसा ही किया, तब लक्ष्मी जी की पूजा के फलस्वरूप किसान का घर धन-धान्य के परिपूर्ण हो गया। देवी लक्ष्मी जी की कृपा से किसान को सभी सुखों और समृद्धि की प्राप्ति होने लगी। इस प्रकार किसान के 12 वर्ष आनंदपूर्वक कट गए।

उधर 12 वर्षों के बाद, देवी लक्ष्मी जी वहां से जाने के लिए तैयार हो गईं और भगवान विष्णु जी भी उन्हें वापस ले जाने के लिए प्रकट हो गए। किसान ने उन्हें भेजने से मना कर दिया। इसपर भगवान विष्णु बोले, “इन्हें कौन जाने देना चाहता है, परन्तु यह एक जगह नहीं ठहरतीं, मेरे श्राप के कारण ही यह 12 वर्षों से तुम्हारी सेवा कर रही थीं और अब इनके जाने का समय हो गया है।”

परन्तु किसान हटपूर्वक बोला कि मैं अब लक्ष्मी जी को नहीं जाने दूंगा। इस संवाद में देवी लक्ष्मी जी किसान से बोलीं कि, “यदि तुम चाहते हो कि तुम्हारे घर में हमेशा मेरा वास हो तो मैं जैसा कह रही हूं, तुम ठीक वैसा ही करना। सुनो कल तेरस है, तुम अपने घर को लीप-पोतकर स्वच्छ कर लेना। और रात्रि में घी का दीपक जला कर रखना, एवं शाम के समय मेरा पूजन करना और एक तांबे के कलश में कुछ सिक्के भरकर वहा रख देना, तब मैं उस कलश में निवास करूंगी, किंतु मैं तुम्हें दिखाई नहीं दूंगी। इस एक दिन की पूजा से ही मै तुम्हारे घर में सदैव निवास करूंगी।”

ऐसा कहकर देवी लक्ष्मी जी अंतर्ध्यान हो गईं। तब किसान ने देवी लक्ष्मी जी के कहे अनुसार, उनका विधि पूर्वक पूजन किया। तब लक्ष्मी जी के आशीर्वाद से उसके घर में हमेशा सुख समृद्धि का निवास बना रहा।

मान्यता है कि तभी से ही धनत्रियोदशी के दिन लक्ष्मी जी की पूजा होती है और धनतेरस का त्योहार मनाया जाता है।

धनतेरस की कथा को पढ़ने वाले सभी भक्तों पर भी इसी प्रकार मां लक्ष्मी की कृपा बनी रहे।

Friends we can say that when nature wants, it can do anything to anyone. If she wants, she makes the king a beggar and the beggar a king. Similarly, out of many stories my grandfather told a story of a poor farmer. In whose house Goddess Lakshmi started living in disguise for 12 years, that too due to a curse of Lord Vishnu himself. Then let’s I tell that story to you today too.

The story my grandfather told that day is as follows. That once here nature did some disturbances and on the other side Lord Vishnu also decided to roam the earth, when he told this thing to Goddess Lakshmi ji, he also urged to walk along. Then Vishnu said to the goddess, “If you want to walk with me, then you will have to obey my every command and obey me.”

Lakshmi ji accepted the condition of Lord Vishnu and set out to roam the earth with him. After reaching the earth, Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi ji stopped at one place and then Lord Vishnu ji said to the goddess, “I am going to travel towards the south, unless I come, you don’t go anywhere.”

Then on the departure of Vishnu ji, this curiosity arose in the mind of Goddess Lakshmi ji that what is it in the south direction that the lord is forbidding me to follow him.

Lakshmi ji could not stay away and to pacify her curiosity, she also followed Vishnu ji. After going some distance, he saw a mustard field, in which beautiful yellow flowers were in bloom. Then seeing the beauty of the mustard flowers, Mata Lakshmi was mesmerized and broke them and started doing her makeup. After walking a little further, he also saw a sugarcane field. From which Lakshmi ji broke the sugarcane and started drinking its juice. At that very moment Lord Vishnu appeared there.

Then Vishnu ji became very angry on seeing Lakshmi ji and said, I had forbidden you to come here but you did not listen to me and also committed the crime of theft in the farmer’s field. Now you have to serve that poor farmer for 12 years to get rid of this crime. Then saying this, the Lord left them there and returned to Kshir Sagar.

After this, Mata Lakshmi ji started living in disguise in the house of a poor farmer. One day Mata Lakshmi ji told the poor farmer’s wife that after taking a bath, first worship the idol of Goddess Lakshmi ji made by me daily and only after that prepare food in the kitchen. Whatever you ask with a sincere heart from the Goddess while worshiping, you will get it soon.

The farmer’s wife did the same, then as a result of worshiping Lakshmi ji, the farmer’s house became full of money and grains. By the grace of Goddess Lakshmi, the farmer started getting all the happiness and prosperity. In this way 12 years of the farmer were spent happily.

On the other hand, after 12 years, Goddess Lakshmi ji agreed to leave and Lord Vishnu ji also appeared to take her back. The farmer refused to send them. On this Lord Vishnu said, “Who wants to let her go, but she does not stay in one place, because of my curse, she was serving you for 12 years and now it’s time for her to leave.”

But the farmer said quietly that I will not let Lakshmi ji go now. In this dialogue, Goddess Lakshmi ji said to the farmer, “If you want me to always reside in your house, then you should do exactly as I am saying. Listen, tomorrow is Teresa, you clean your house by leaping. And keep a lamp of ghee lit in the night, and worship me in the evening and fill a copper urn with some coins and keep it there, then I will reside in that urn, but I will not be visible to you. From this one day’s worship, I will always reside in your house.

Saying this, Goddess Laxmi ji disappeared. Then the farmer worshiped Goddess Lakshmi ji according to her method. Then with the blessings of Lakshmi ji, there was always an abode of happiness and prosperity in his house.

It is believed that since then Lakshmi ji is worshiped on the day of Dhantriyadashi and the festival of Dhanteras is celebrated.

In the same way, the blessings of Mother Lakshmi remain on all the devotees who read the story of Dhanteras.
