धनतेरस की पौराणिक कथा

नमस्कार मित्रों! वैसे धनतेरस की अनेको कथाऐ प्रचलित है। परन्तु आज मै अपने दादा जी द्वारा सुनाई गई कथा आज आप तक पहुँचा रहा हूँ। कहते है प्रकृति जब स्वयं चाहती है तब ही कुछ घटनाऐ घटती है। और तब ही आप कुछ नया ज्ञान आपको सीखने को भी मिलता है। ऐसा ही कुछ मेरे साथ भी हुआ था आज से लगभग 22 से 25 बर्ष पहले। जब मै घनघोर अन्धेरे और विजली की गड़गड़ाहट के बीच अपने दादा के साथ एक चारपाई पर बैठा बाहर का नजारा देख रहा था। तभी अचानक से मेरी उंगलिया ने बाहर की तरफ एक चमकती हुई चीज पर ध्यान आकर्षित करवाया।

मानो जैसे कोई अमुल्य और आकर्षक वस्तु देख लिया हो और समय रहते सभी को दिखा देना भी चाहता हो। तभी मेरे दादा ने कहा नाग देवता है अतिशीघ्र ही उचित स्थान पर पहुँचना चहते है। तब मैने उस नाग देवता को ओझल होने से पूर्व ही अपने दादा से एक नाग की कथा सुनाने का प्रस्ताव रख दिया। मेरे दादा जी ने भी प्रस्ताव को स्वीकार करते हुए एक धनतेरस की नाग वाली यह कथा सुनाई।

धनतेरस कथा

धनतेरस कथा कुछ इस प्रकार थी। कि एक बार हिमा नामक एक राजा था। उसने अपने सोलह वर्षीय पुत्र का विवाह एक कन्या से करा दिया गया, लेकिन विवाह के ही दिन ज्योतिषियों ने भविष्यवाणी भी कर दी कि राजकुमार शादी के चौथे दिन ही मर जाएगा क्योंकि उसे एक सांप काट लेगा। यह जानकारी मिलते ही राजा और और राजकुमार की पत्नी बेहद ही दुखी हो गए। जब राजा ने ज्योतिषियों से इसका कोई उपाय निकालने को कहा तब उन्होंने विधि का विधान कहकर सब राजकुमार की पत्नी पर छोड़कर चले गये।

लेकिन राजकुमार की पत्नी ने तय किया कि वह अपनी पति की जान बचाकर रहेगी और शादी के चौथे दिन उसने महल में सभी गहने और सोना को एकत्र कर के मुख्य द्वार के सामने एक ढेर वना कर रख दिया। साथ ही वह राजकुमार को जगाए रखने के लिए उन्हें एक के बाद एक मनमोहक कहानी और गीत सुनाने लगी। क्योंकि ज्योतिषों का कहना था कि राजकुमार के सोते ही सांप रात के समय ही उसे काटेगा इसलिए उसे सोने से पत्नी बचाने का प्रयास करने लगी। इस तरह से वह अपने पति को रात भर जगाती रही और अनेकों कहानीया और गीत सुनाती ही रही।

उधर जब यम रूपी सांप राजकुमार को डंसने के लिए आ रहा था तो महल के मुख्यद्वार पर गहनों की चमक से वह अंधा बन गया। इसलिए वह सांप महल में प्रवेश नहीं कर सका। इस बीच राजकुमार की पत्नी द्वारा गाए गए मधुर गीतों से सांप मंत्रमुग्ध हो गया तथा सांप वहीं द्वार पर ही रुक गया और भोर हो गई। राजकुमार की मृत्यु के लिए ग्रहों ने जो समय निर्धारित किया था वह बीत गया तब यम इस प्रकार राजकुमार की जान लिए विना ही वापस लौट गए।

धनतेरस की परंपरा ऐसे शुरू हुई

जैसा की राजकुमार की जान सोने की आभूषणों के चलते सांप के अंधे होने से ही बची थी इसलिए यही कारण है कि इस दिन के बाद से धनतेरस पर सोना खरीदने की पंरपरा शुरू हुई। और यदि कोई सोना न खरीद सके तो वह चांदी, पीतल या स्टील भी खरीद सकता है। लेकिन इन चार धातुओं में से किसी एक को जरूर खरीदने की पंरपरा रही हैं। और तभी से यम के नाम का दीप जलाया जाने लगा। इसलिए धनतेरस पर घर के मुख्य द्वार के सामने भगवान यम और देवी लक्ष्मी का दीप जरूर जलाना चाहिए।

It is said that some events happen only when nature itself wants it. And only then you get to learn some new knowledge. Something similar happened to me as well, about 22 to 25 years ago today. When I was sitting on a cot with my grandfather, watching the view outside, amidst the gloomy darkness and the thunder of lightning. Then all of a sudden my fingers drew attention to a glowing object on the outside.

As if you have seen some priceless and attractive thing and want to show it to everyone in time. That’s when my grandfather said that the snake is a god, he wants to reach the right place very soon. Then I proposed to my grandfather to narrate the story of a serpent even before that serpent god disappeared. Accepting the offer, my grandfather also narrated this story of a Dhanteras snake.

Dhanteras story

The Dhanteras story was something like this. That once there was a king named Hima. He got his sixteen-year-old son married to a girl, but on the very day of marriage, astrologers also predicted that the prince would die on the fourth day of marriage as he would be bitten by a snake. On getting this information, the king and the prince’s wife became very sad. When the king asked the astrologers to find a solution for this, then they all left it to the prince’s wife, saying the law of the law.

But the prince’s wife decided that she would save her husband’s life and on the fourth day of marriage she collected all the ornaments and gold in the palace and put a pile in front of the main gate. At the same time, to keep the prince awake, she started telling him one after another adorable story and song. Because astrologers said that as soon as the prince slept, the snake would bite him only during the night, so the wife started trying to save him from sleeping. In this way she kept her husband awake throughout the night and kept on telling many stories and songs.

On the other hand, when the snake of Yama was coming to bite the prince, he became blind due to the gleam of the ornaments at the main gate of the palace. So that snake could not enter the palace. Meanwhile, the snake was mesmerized by the melodious songs sung by the prince’s wife, and the snake stopped there at the door and it was morning. The time fixed by the planets for the death of the prince passed, then Yama thus returned without taking the life of the prince.

This is how the tradition of Dhanteras started

As the prince’s life was saved only from the snake becoming blind due to gold ornaments, this is the reason why the tradition of buying gold on Dhanteras started from this day onwards. And if one cannot buy gold, he can also buy silver, brass or steel. But there has been a tradition of buying any one of these four metals. And since then the lamp named after Yama started being lit. Therefore, on Dhanteras, a lamp of Lord Yama and Goddess Lakshmi must be lit in front of the main door of the house.
